The Lonely Saucer

So I was out dining again with a friend.  This time, the photograph is not about the food.  It is a scene after the food was eaten.  The restaurant we were dining in served a small saucer with frozen grapes with the bill, kind of like how some other restaurants give out mints instead.  What was left was the empty saucer on top of the table, which had a vibrant reddish hue.  So that’s what I saw.  What do?  Take a photo of course.

I felt that the contrast between the white saucer and the red background of the wooden table made the image much more striking.  Not only that, but the simplicity of the composition reminds me that this photograph would not have existed if I did not bother to give the saucer a second look after paying for the bill.   You just got to watch out for these moments.
