Little Red

Today’s photograph, again, comes from Portland.  This time, it was at The Grotto.  Apart from the sanctuary and the chapel at ground level, there is an area that one can take an elevator to the upper sanctuary.  This photograph was taken there.

What made this photograph special to me was the inclusion of the red house.  I wanted it to be a pleasant surprise amongst all the nature:  a lone man-made structure amidst all the foliage and greenery.  It was striking:  red against all the green.  It also reminded me of a little fairy tale I used to read:  Little Red Riding Hood.

I wanted to depict this scene in Red’s life before she ever met the Big Bad Wolf.  She would come to see her grandmother, and a sense of excitement and happiness would overwhelm her and she would run towards the house bringing her basket of goodies.  The high-key nature of the light passing through the trees conveys that emotion.  I hope you enjoy.

Taken with Canon EOS Digital Rebel  XTi.
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 at 18mm.
Shutter Speed: 1/13s.
Aperture: f/5.6.
ISO 100.
