Well, it’s not the city’s main library. That’s reserved for the downtown branch of the public library. This is the local university’s main library. It underwent a massive renovation a few years back and two large wings were added upon the old one. Lots of amenities were included such as group study areas, classrooms, lecture halls and also a café for students who required a little extra fuel before burning the midnight oil. As far as I could tell, the library is open 24/7. Below is a photograph of the central, old wing.
When they constructed this library, they created a robotic system that would take boxes of books a la vending machine when a library patron would ask the librarian for a specific call number. You never really saw it work when ordering a book but from the outside, there are windows that show the machine working so you could sort of watch while hurrying towards your next class. It is quite cool to see.
